Edmonton

Edmonton is the capital of the province of Alberta and the fifth largest city in Canada. Known as the "Gateway to the North", it is the northernmost North American city with a metropolitan population of over one million. It is also a cultural, governmental and educational center, hosting numerous festivals year-round, contributing to its nickname "Canada's Festival City". Edmonton has the highest amount of parkland per capita of any Canadian city, along with numerous museums - and the Francis Winspear Centre for Music, one of the most acoustically perfect concert halls in Canada.

Information about getting to Edmonton can be found on the Greater Edmonton Destination Planner website. If you are arriving at the Edmonton International Airport (YEG), which is 29 km from the city centre, there are a few options available to you for transportation into the city.

  • Sky Shuttle: the Sky Shuttle travels between the airport and many hotels around the city. A one-way ticket on the Sky Shuttle costs $15. More information, including schedules and stops, can be found on the Sky Shuttle website.
  • Taxi: taxis are available on the arrivals level of the airport. Rates for taxi rides to and from the airport are fixed based on zones. The complete zone map lists all fares for Edmonton; travel to downtown is $48 one way.
  • Rental cars: rentals from Avis, Budget, Hertz, Thrifty, and National are all available in the parkade, level P1.
